It is a kind of dilemma to put forensic accounting in accounting field studies itself, because to be able to forensic accounting job, someone has to have double skills. Double skills here means the accountant is not only demanded to perform his/her skill in accounting or financial knowledge, but also auditing and investigative skills to reveal all the crimes of the frauds and thefts. The evidence of their investigation has to be able to be proved at court. Forensic accountants have to be able to provide accounting analysis that is suitable to the court, so there would be discussion, debate, and finally resolution for the fraudulent cases.
Some people say that forensic accounting can be a cross course between accounting and accounting studies. They can be included to both field studies, or maybe it is more like investigation skill in accounting specification. It is kind of confusing, because there are certain things that someone has to have to do forensic accounting. First of all, to be able to be a forensic accountant, someone has to be very critical about things, not only from one point of view, but in many sides of views. S/he has to have really good communication skill, because they will work like an attorney that conveys the evidence that they got to the people who need the evidence. Bad skill communication will not convince people to believe in you. Besides, to do forensic accounting job, someone not only needs bachelor degree in finance or accounting, but also has a certification called Certified Fraud Examiner. So, forensic accounting can be included into two field studies.
